Random Insults Day 13 – Ihr Seht Alle Gleich Aus!

This nice piece of German Anarchist social commentary was snapped by my brother on a recent jaunt to the Fatherland. It translates as “You all look the same!” which is reassuring to some, but obviously distressing enough to put marker to marble for the author.

This seems a fitting post for me today as I am thoroughly enjoying Gavin Baddeley’s immaculately researched dissertation on Satanism, Lucifer Rising and this statement would not be out of place issuing forth from the mouth of Anton La Vey, Aleister Crowley or any of the other free-wheeling, free-thinking, black wearing, colourful characters that Baddeley discusses.

Oh and the A sign is a nice touch.

Random Insults Day 2 – Bill Henson still can’t paint

There’s nothing like a good old Aussie tall poppy put down. This little witticism against controversial photographer Bill Henson on Mitchell St., Northcote is just around the corner from Bill’s home. I’m sure it’s not the most insulting thing that’s been directed at him, however, considering he’s been accused of creating artwork verging on child pornography by more than one conservative zealot. Still I like the tack this insult takes. As Homer Simpson once put it, “It’s funny because it’s true”.

Building Bullshit

You’ve got to love the desecration of political propaganda. Snapped on Australia Day 2011, I thought it appropriate to commemorate the waffle of national pride with this cream topping (in a can) of a culture-jam (a couple days late I know but… whatever). Perhaps fair comment is a more appropriate label for this work of poster vandalism. I like the A sign strategically placed next to the blacked out Labor Party Logo, transforming it into anarcho-syndicalist colours… who said old leftist dreams are dead. Shamefully un-Australian of me (and this spray can warrior) I know, but that’s free-speech for you – lap it up.
